At the foothills of the Pyrenees lies the region of Madiran, known for big brooding reds that age forever, but they also make weighty whites and sweet wines. This manages to be neither of these, it’s late harvest, a little sweet but also not dry. Ninety-nine percent Petit Menseng there are aromas of raw honey, dried sesame, chamomile, washed rind cheese and orange marmalade. There should be endless food pairings where no other wine makes sense.
