Wine - Cabernet Sauvignon - ThereAfter
ThereAfter Wine Company operates with the philosophy that the land, vines, and wine will exist far longer than we can imagine. With this in mind, being good stewards of the vineyards and the ecosystems within them is our top priority. Everything else falls into place more easily afterwards.
Time spent with the vines and techniques learned from working with great winemakers around the world have allowed us to create distinctive wines that express the best attributes of where they’re grown. Harvesting on the early edge of ripeness gives the wines a clear lineage to the places they grow and, most importantly, draw you in for another sip.
ThereAfter tells the story of an Italian and an American who met in a viticulture and enology master's program in France. We teamed up years later to rehabilitate tiny vineyards in Napa Valley and use our combined experience to make vibrant, expressive wine. We farm three vineyards in Saint Helena and one in Calistoga by hand, without tractors. From the rocky mountainsides of the Mayacamas range to the alluvial valley floor soils of Saint Helena and Calistoga, we study the small variations of terroir within Napa and its surroundings to showcase what California wines can do when farmed and made with a fresh perspective.
Partnerships with other like-minded growers around Northern California give us even more interesting variety to play with. These experiments give us insight into our own farming and allow us to present more delicious and accessible styles from outside the Napa kingdom. Spontaneous fermentation, low-extraction, and moderate oak influence are trademarks of our style in the cellar. We don’t add stuff like yeast, bacteria, tannins, enzymes to the wines because we believe that well-farmed fruit and careful winemaking removes the need for additives. Each lot remains on its lees until it is bottled, allowing us to use little to no SO₂.
