Blend of Tor’s top-end single vineyard cabs (To Kalon, Herb Lamb, Tierra Roja, others). In 2014, it’s mostly “Melanson Vineyard” on Pritchard Hill. 60% new French oak, aged 12-16 months. A lot going on here: smell and taste cassis, Chambord, black & blueberries, baking spices, yogurt, violets and freshly-opened humidor. Tannins present but unobtrusive, brisk acid. 20+ second finish. (He has “The Midas Touch,” says Mr. Parker) Rich, seductive and luxurious: get ripe black currants, dark plums, kirsch, pipe tobacco, mocha, and allspice on the long finish.
