Charbono: grape once popular in California, since replanted to more lucrative varietals such as Cab and Chardonnay. Only 80 acres left now. Goes by Bonarda in Argentina. Semi-carbonic maceration keeps massive tannins in check. Smell & taste savory aromas of briny black olives and mushrooms, and juicy, stewed black fruit on the palate.
