Hartmann Dona “Dona Rouge” Schiava Trentino - Alto Adige 2012

We can’t say enough about this producer, and just when we think we have seen it all, we come across a 10-year-old Schiava. Yes, the delicate/floral grape has proved its ability to age gracefully when in the proper hands.  The wine throws off a lot of tertiary aromas of sweet cigar, mushrooms, leather and black cherries. The 23 months of oak aging infused woodsy tannins that seem to have kept the wine’s structure alive over the years. Such a beautiful surprise!
