Halcon Vineyards Syrah "Alturas" Yorkville Highlands, Mendocino 2015

All Estate fruit from Halcon's cool-climate, high altitude vineyards in Mendocino's Yorkville Highlands. Could easily be mistaken for top-notch Crozes Hermitage (Northern Rhone Valley Syrah). Takes a while to open up. Spicy, earthy and tightly wound first opened. As it breathes, juicy blueberry, fennel, iron, lavender, black olive, smoked duck breast and bloody beefsteak emerge. Medium body, very light on the oak. Outstanding food wine. "Sensational bouquet of black raspberries, caramelized black cherries, bouquet garni, smoked duck and chalky minerality.
