This Syrah comes from a row of vines in Stag’s Leap that had been forgotten about and neglected – they were cuttings of Shiraz taken from Barossa Valley in the 1990s. The clone is Best’s Old Block, which has looser bunches. There’s also 4% Semillon, co-fermented with the Syrah. A fresh, floral, fruity, slightly carbonic nose, with a herbal, grainy texture to the very smooth palate. This proves that great Syrah can be made here in Napa. Just 2 barrels made.
