Domaine Rimbert Saint Chinian "Le Mas au Schiste" 2014

Equal parts Carignane, Syrah and Grenache. Steep vineyard, chock-full of sharp schiste rock. Takes a mas-o-chist ("Mas-au-Schiste") to work this vineyard. Get it? Wild, brambly berries and cherries with ample dry spice, wild herbs, game and leather smells and flavors. Grippy tannins and healthy acidity. It's a rustic wine in the best of ways. Great with roast leg of lamb with olives and lots of garlic and herbs.
