Unusual to see “Mataró” on a French wine label, but it’s an old nineteenth-century name for Mourvèdre. Purple in color, it’s chewy and gripping on the palate with aromas of blackberry, bramble, plum, licorice, black pepper, and clove, plus an earthy mouthfeel. A very approachable, meaty Mourvèdre to be drunk with lamb or cassoulet.
