Let’s just say we don’t associate Portugal’s Douro Valley with Austria’s Grüner Veltliner, but the combination clearly works because this sparkling wine is fantastic. Rita Ferreira loves the grape so much, she planted it ten years ago at 600m elevation. Two years aging in the bottle and no dosage after disgorgement leads to a fresh, vibrant nose of green apples, kumquot, white pepper, and white flowers and a dry, acidic but weighty palate.
