Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Rosso di Montalcino 2016

This is a superb introduction to the great wines of Montalcino. Aged in stainless steel and concrete tanks, this is all about the purity of the fruit rather than interventionist winemaking: it has an extremely attractive, aromatic nose of ripe red cherry and strawberry, wild flowers, pepper, and licorice, leading into a palate that has lightly grainy tannins and fresh acidity. There’s a gentleness to the wine which belies its deep concentration and long finish.
