The first estate in Gattinara to bottle cru wines, Antoniolo is a benchmark producer in Alto Piemonte. “San Francesco” is consistently the most approachable of their wines. A nose of lavender and crushed herbs leads to sour cherry, rose petal, fennel, tar and freshly-tilled earth on the palate. Medium weight, zippy acid. Good now with a decant, better in 5-25 years.
